The characteristics of 11% to 14% Mn Hadfield Steel
- Work hardening steel - the more impact and abrasion it gets the harder the surface becomes.
- Steel stays ductile underneath - as the surface wears - only outer layer gets hard.
- With continued impact the manganese steel can harden to 63 Rockwell C scale or 668 Brinell.
- When rolled - never brittle.
- Work hardened surface is almost friction-less.
- Non-Magnetic
- Quenched, annealed and austenitic
- Can be cut by plasma / laser / water jet / oxy-acetylene
- Made to ASTM A128 standards
- Tensile strength - 120,000/130,000 psi
- Yield strength - 60,000/85,000 psi
- % Elongation in 2" - 35%/50%
